Privacy Policy - Langwish

Last updated: 28 March 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Langwish (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, and shares personal data when you use our mobile application (“App”) and related services.

Controller: The entity responsible for personal data in connection with the App is the Langwish operator (Netherlands).
Contact: support@langwish.app

If you are in the EU/EEA or UK, you have rights under the GDPR (and UK GDPR where applicable), including those listed in Section 9.

1. What data we collect

Depending on how you use the App, we may process:

1.1 Account and authentication

  • Email address and account identifiers (e.g. user ID from our authentication provider).
  • If you use Sign in with Apple or other providers, we receive information that provider shares with us according to your choices and their policy.

1.2 Profile and subscription

  • Subscription status, trial dates, and related billing metadata (we do not receive your full card number; payments are handled by Apple or your app store).
  • Onboarding and preferences needed to run the App (e.g. target language, difficulty, daily goals).

1.3 Learning activity and content

  • Learning progress: words, topics, quiz results, streaks, badges, and similar metrics you generate in the App.
  • Content you create or request, including AI-generated vocabulary lists and related metadata (e.g. topics, languages).
  • Technical sync data such as timestamps and device-related identifiers needed to keep your progress consistent across sessions.

1.4 Device permissions (only if you enable them)

  • Screen Time / Family Controls (or similar): information required to apply app blocking or focus features you configure; we do not control Apple’s system APIs beyond what you authorize.
  • Notifications: device token or similar data to send local or push notifications you opt into.

1.5 Support and feedback

  • Messages you send to support or through in-app feedback tools (e.g. feedback widgets), including your email if you provide it.

1.6 Diagnostics and security

  • Log and error data, approximate server time checks, and limited technical data (e.g. app version, OS) to secure the service and fix bugs.

We do not intend to collect special categories of data (e.g. health, political opinions) through the App. Please do not submit such information in free-text fields.

2. How we use your data (purposes)

We use personal data to:

  • provide, maintain, and improve the App (sync, backups, personalization);
  • process subscriptions and trials and prevent abuse (e.g. repeated trial misuse);
  • run AI-assisted features you request and enforce fair-use or tier limits;
  • send service communications (e.g. important notices about your account);
  • provide customer support;
  • ensure security, fraud prevention, and compliance with law;
  • comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

3. Legal bases (GDPR)

Where GDPR applies, we rely on one or more of:

  • Contract (Art. 6(1)(b)): providing the App and features you request.
  • Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)): securing the service, improving the product, preventing abuse, and analytics that do not override your rights.
  • Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)): where we must retain or disclose data by law.
  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): where required (e.g. certain optional marketing or non-essential cookies on a website). The App may ask permission for notifications or OS features via system prompts.

4. Sharing and processors

We share data only as needed with:

  • Infrastructure and backend providers (e.g. cloud database and authentication) to host and secure your account data.
  • AI / API providers to generate content you request, subject to their safeguards and terms.
  • Apple (or your app store) for payments and subscription status.
  • Feedback / support tools when you contact us through them.
  • Professional advisers or authorities where required by law.

We require service providers to process data only on our instructions and to implement appropriate technical and organizational measures.

We do not sell your personal data in the conventional sense. We do not share data for third-party advertising in the App unless we explicitly notify you and, where required, obtain consent.

5. International transfers

If we transfer personal data outside the EU/EEA, we use appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, or other mechanisms permitted under GDPR, unless a valid adequacy decision applies.

6. Retention

We retain data as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward to resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and meet legal, tax, or accounting requirements.

Certain records (for example related to trial eligibility or abuse prevention) may be kept longer in a minimal form (e.g. email or hashed identifier) to protect the service, as described at collection.

When you delete your account where the App offers this, we delete or anonymize associated personal data except where we must or may retain minimal information as permitted by law (including fraud prevention).

7. Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect personal data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children

The App is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children below that age. If you believe we have, contact us and we will take steps to delete the information.

9. Your rights (EU/EEA/UK)

Subject to conditions and exceptions in applicable law, you may have the right to:

  • Access your personal data;
  • Rectify inaccurate data;
  • Erase data (“right to be forgotten”) in certain cases;
  • Restrict processing in certain cases;
  • Data portability for data you provided, where processing is based on contract or consent and automated;
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interests (including profiling in certain cases);
  • Withdraw consent where processing is consent-based;
  • Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

10. Cookies and websites

If we operate a website (e.g. for marketing or support), that site may use cookies or similar technologies. We will provide cookie details on the site or in a separate notice where required. This Privacy Policy primarily covers the App.

11. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy. We will post the new version and change the “Last updated” date. For material changes, we will provide a clearer notice where appropriate (e.g. in-app). Continued use after the effective date may be subject to the updated Policy.
